Roundel Reception

The picture above shows Lord Somerleyton opening the event with a speech outlining the Somerleyton connection before a crowd of over one hundred guests.

Frances Cockerell was then asked to formally unveil the Hovercraft Roundel Memorial. She gave an interesting speech drawing on her childhood recollections of living on an RAF Pinnace in The Wherry Dyke during the 1950’s and the Ripplecraft background to what has become a page in our maritime history; a new international industry.

The picture right shows the lettering on the Roundel being cut at the Cardozo-Kindersley workshop in Cambridge. From the left, architect James Airy, Lida Cardozo-Kindersley and her apprentice Li.
